So there I am leaning out the door firing the machine gun yelling, "Get some, get some!!" ...er, wait...that is a scene from the movie Full Metal Jacket. I was sitting in the helicopter flying to my new place called Taji. These pictures are of Baghdad. As we fly over the city the door gunner must look out to make sure no one is targeting us with a rocket or shooting at us. I thought that picture was worth 1000 words. If you look a few posts back you can see me in the helmet and vest and this door gunner is helping to protect me. I carry a 9mm on me but you really need a rifle at these distances. Needless to say, I am thankful for my door gunner.

Look at the houses or as we call them mud huts (smile) talk about zero lot lines. We land frequently, like every 10 minutes or so. On this flight when we took off a few times they let out flares. I think most of this is standard procedure but it makes you think, did they get a "blip" on their sensors that said we were being targeted? You set off the flares to divert the rockets that are typically heat seeking.
Fun thoughts so early in the am.
